Reds Targets
Make an offer to Rays for Jeff Niemann (SP) and Fernando Perez (OF). Haven’t looked at who they might want back, but I would think these players would be available. I would not hesitate to include Homer Bailey in this deal if necessary. Perhaps there might be interest from the Rays in Cordero? Reid Brignac [...]
Okay, Reds fans…a proposal you won’t like (re: Brandon Phillips)
I enjoy Brandon Phillips.
I admire Brandon Phillips.
I do not overvalue Brandon Phillips.
I think the Reds should attempt to trade Brandon Phillips.
This is not a proposal I make lightly, as he is one of the few Reds who apparently enjoys playing baseball. I think it is ridiculous to say he could be a top-notch SS, [...]About time…
He should have been here all season. Corey Patterson’s performance was a predictable as sunshine in July. Strike one on Dusty.
Strike two, I’m afraid, is his handling of Cueto and Volquez. Cueto threw 118 pitches in five innings the other night. Volquez seems to throw 100+ in 5 or 6 each start. I wanted to [...]Narron No More - Reds fire manager (finally)
With the dismal record and lackluster play of his charges, I’m surprised Jerry Narron lasted as long as he did. I wonder if today’s ballgame (a loss to the Cardinals) was the tipping point? Likely, he was already gone, but there was some odd occurances today, e.g.
Josh Hamilton’s role in the Reds management
An undiscussed issue in Redsland is how the the job security of Jerry Narron is influenced by the emergence of Josh Hamilton. Narron’s brother is on staff, apparently as Hamilton’s “keeper”. The Narrons watched Hamilton grow up as a youth, and this relationship seems to be a major reason why the Reds obtained Hamilton in [...]
more HoF talk about my favorite player
John Brattain writes about the HoF credentials of my favorite player over at Hardball Times.
.316 OBP (very junior)
This article from the Post about Griffey is more of the same, depressingly.
Griffey indicated late in the season that he would be willing to move if it was best for the team, but he would prefer to do so on his own terms. Once he felt he couldn’t patrol center field adequately, he said, he [...]
more on Davey
An excellent article by Lonnie Wheeler about Davey and the HoF.
Those guys, in turn, are freely speaking now on behalf of their neglected teammate. They owe him, after all.
“You know why Joe is talking for me?” Concepcion asked with characteristic mischief in his voice. “Because I make Joe a Hall of Famer. He said no, [...]My favorite player ever
I woke this morning to find Marty Brennaman’s editorial in the Enquirer about my favorite player ever, Davey Concepción. In conjunction with Redfest, someone has created a (rather mundane) site, http://www.concepcionforcooperstown.org.
You can twist things a million ways to make a HoF case. Surely, Davey was the best SS of the era. To my mind, to [...]I’m not alone (re: John Fay)
JD Arney over at Reds Reporter is in agreement with me re: the Enquirer’s John Fay.
This is one of our 4-5 stories a week on the Reds? John Fay spent yesterday calling Barry Axelrod to find out about Rich Aurilia? Is there really nothing better to do? I’d rather see a profile on Chad Moeller [...]
