The Moth!
Lately, I’ve been enjoying podcasts from The Moth. What’s The Moth?
Pharos to support Mac/Intel
One obstacle (besides pricing) to placing Macs on our floors for public computers has been the lack of Pharos SignUp support for Mac on Intel. Mac on PowerPC has been supported for some time, but not Mac/Intel. I learned today that later in June we should get Mac/Intel support.
In general, I’ve found Pharos SignUp fully-featured, [...]new Drupal site for Lane Libraries staff
We unveiled our new Drupal-based staff site last week: http://staff.lanepl.org (or lanelearning.org).
Drupal isn’t as intuitive as WP, but I like it, and I think it is a good platform for us for this purpose. Our host is anhosting.com and I can’t say enough good things about that outfit. Cheap, and excellent service. Usually don’t get [...]
What is keeping me busy lately (library stuff)
Earlier this week, I particpated in a session about Google Apps for Your Domain at Ohio’s Tech Connections 2.0.0.8 with David Popeck (Lakewood Public Library) and Don Yarman (Delaware County District Library). We only had 45 minutes, and I wish we had it to do over again, but I hope the attendees got something from [...]

Our relationship has been a positive one. We have paid them a lot of money over the years, but [...]

I haven’t written much lately, partly because I have been very busy with some exciting new initiatives at work, and partly because I’ve been lazy.
Today we lit a fiber optic connection between our Hamilton buildings (Hamilton Lane Library and our Admin Center.) A building formerly limited in bandwidth by a single T-1 line (1.54mb) [...]Is this Phil Hendrie? Weird but funny.

sometimes the best blog content is in the comments
2007 is starting off with lots of library news in the mainstream (non-library literature) press. The NYT ran an article about a library in NJ that is closing during peak hours due to rowdy teens and the revamped WSJ [more on the revamp in a future post] ran a Careers article about librarianship and [...]
Gaming and Libraries: Intersection of Services
Jenny Levine, The Shifted Librarian, has written a new book Gaming and Libraries: Intersection of Services, published by ALA. I will read this soon.
The case studies reveal that gaming programs often turn out to be among the most popular a library can offer. “I have yet to hear about a library of any type offering [...]
